Battery Charging

1. What is battery charging? Electric forklift charger

Charging, also known as battery charging, is the process of adding energy (electricity) to the battery. Below, Device4u will share with you some useful information and technical instructions for battery charging.

The electric forklift charger is an extremely important device for scissor lifts, it is like a daily food source for people. The charging source is the energy source converted from AC electricity into corresponding DC electricity for the forklift’s battery pack.If the charging current is too large, the battery will receive an electric shock, easily damaging the battery. A small charging current will cause the tank to corrode and take a long time to fill the tank. Electric forklift charger – forklift charger, depending on the forklift model and style, there will be 12V, 24V, 48V forklift chargers.

Technical specifications of 24V forklift charger for scissor lifts:

– Input voltage of 24Vi forklift charger: 100/240V – 50/60Hz

– Output voltage: 24VDC

– Feed current: 25A

Advantages of using a specialized Genie forklift battery charger

Genuine Genie charger

Especially with battery-powered forklifts that only use energy from the battery, the ability to consume a large amount of electricity. Therefore, the Genie forklift battery charger will ensure:

  • Meet the required charging capacity of each battery power supply according to the standards prescribed by the forklift manufacturer
  • The charger must have the Interlock feature. When the battery charger is plugged in, make sure your forklift is not working
  • There must be equipment to control leakage current at an allowable level
  • On the charger there must be a display of the voltage level of the forklift’s battery pack
  • There is a charging indicator light and a vehicle battery level indicator light
  • There is a warning light when the tank is broken
  • When fully charged, the battery will automatically stop charging. This function will minimize damage to the overpressure tank, avoid tank swelling, and help increase the life of the forklift battery.

2.1 How to use an automatic electric forklift charger

Step 1: Turn the charging current adjustment knob to the lowest level.

Step 2: Adjust the battery’s voltage switch to the charging level required by the manufacturer.

Step 3: The electrodes of the charger and the battery must be of the same polarity, positive connected to positive and negative connected to negative. Absolutely do not connect poles without knowing exactly which pole is connected to which pole because it can cause a fire or explosion hazard.

Step 4: Power on the charger.

Step 5: Use the knob to adjust the charging current until the Ammeter displays 0.2C5A for alkaline Ni-Cd batteries, and 0.1C10A for lead-acid batteries.

Step 6: The charger will automatically turn off when the battery is full. Normally, it takes 6-12 hours to fully charge the battery.

2.2 How to use the semi-automatic electric forklift charger

Step 1: Turn the charging adjustment knob to the smallest position.

Step 2: Similar to step 3 of using an automatic electric forklift charger. Before connecting, you need to make sure you have connected the correct polarity together. You can use a VOM meter to determine the polarity of each device and then connect it to the charger.

Step 3: Open the power switch.

Step 4: Check the floating and boost voltage of the battery.

Step 5: Proceed step by step as follows:

Stage 1:

  • For lead acid batteries and alkaline batteries, adjust to the appropriate current. You should only slightly increase the voltage and not increase it quickly because if you increase it suddenly it will cause the battery to heat up quickly and be damaged.
  • During charging keep the charger at 10V until the charger voltage equals the boost voltage then go to the next step.

Stage 2: After stage 1 is completed, move on to stage 2 of the charging process:

  • Disconnect the charger and battery from each other.
  • Adjust the charging current to equal the floating voltage.
  • Observe and check the charging current.
  • Check that the charger and device are connected to the correct polarity.
  • Maintain the charge level until it equals the floating voltage and the voltmeter gradually returns to 0A. And it will take 1-4 hours to charge. After charging is complete, there will be an indicator light and you need to remove the charger from the battery to avoid damage to the battery.
